Women Construction Forum Encourages Others to Give Back by Starting Your Own Tribe

Most groups begin with the single thought that there must be others out there who have similar passions, experiences, or causes close to their hearts, and who want to share and belong to a cohort of like-minded individuals.  This was the case with Women Construction Forum (WCF), WCF is a group of Women in Construction in Upstate, SC formed by two individuals born and raised in Greenville, SC.

Angela Gardner, Hill Electric and Rachel Veltri, Neves Construction co-founded WCF to bring together women in Upstate, SC who are working in the construction industry. Their vision to help build up women and their voices in the construction arena by Empowering, Engaging, and Mentoring women entering the industry, has spearheaded the growth of similar groups of women supporting women.

WCF began by reaching out to women in the Upstate who had construction “field” experience and who were willing to participate in efforts to give back to the community by sharing their experience and knowledge with local high school and college students. Since 2019, WCF members have not only given their time to students, but they have given their time, money, and abilities to help organizations such as Safe Harbor and Habitat for Humanity.

WCF co-founders feel the importance of giving back to their community by reaching young people cannot be understated. “If young women see professionals giving their time to encourage and mentor others, then hopefully, many of them will grow up to be leaders who give back to their communities,” said Rachel Veltri.
